After travelling for almost three months and covering a distance of approximately 12,000 air miles, 2.800 km by road and probably close to 450 kms walking around on foot, as well as meeting people of 12 different nationalities, the conclusion is the same: the more you travel the more you take energy from different people and situations. The more you travel the more you surpass your minor limitations and set yourself bigger objectives. As long as you travel you come across positive thoughts, opinions and conversations. You realise that everyone, irrespective of whether they are white, black, Asian or Latino, share common problems; deep down we are all the same and are separated only by stereotypes. As long as you travel you see very clearly, not only how unsatisfied most people are, but also their endeavours to improve themselves. As long as you travel you feel and touch upon the most sensitive cords of people you meet simply because you become a better person, more agreeable and compassionate, and to become a better person is more important than all the money in the world.
Returning home, I feel that my journey was finally too short, much too short….
To those who ask me how I found things to be in America, I have no answer to give. When you have travelled (and I don’t mean for a touristic long weekend) you know that stereotypes are for the gullible and travel writers; that all Greeks dance the syrtaki and drink ouzo every day, that all the Chinese eat snakes and Brazilians dance samba and Germans drink beer. BS or bullshit.
As long as you sit on the couch waiting for your destiny, or to win the jackpot on the lottery or for that special occasion to arrive, be sure that it will never happen.
Close your eyes and dream of something that you want to do, somewhere that you want to go: believe it and it will happen. It’s enough that you don’t lie to yourself: that you truly believe it.
MOVE YOURSELF, get out of your shell, meet people from everywhere, don’t be timid, don’t be afraid and, above all, don’t be stereotypical. Keep your advice to yourself, be neither conceited nor have a low self-esteem and listen, listen, listen...... everything will go better if you are sure of yourself. Simply, you’ll be ready to receive the positive force of the universe......
