Event Description

The exhibition will be open every day from 11:00 - 14:00 and from 19:00 - 22:30

Hans Giesen was born in the South of Holland, near Maastricht. After finishing his art education there he went to the North to complete his studies at the "Ateliers"and at the University of Amsterdam (cultural filosophy).

In the roaring sixties Hans was very involved in the artists' revolution. He was one of the organizers of the first occupation of the Rijksmuseum and for some years he was involved in cultural politics.

In December 1966 Hans went for the first time to Greece, Crete, and lived there nearly one year with his wife Jeanne and their 16 month old daughter Oona. They went back to Crete many times except during the junta.

In 1986 his gallery dealer offered him her studio in Paros. Hans immediately felt at home here. It was as if he had always lived on this island. From that first moment he was verry inspired and made many many paintings and works on paper. This has continued until now. All the paintings in this exhibition were made here in the last two years.

1986 was also the year that he started exhibiting and selling succesfully. Hans had numerous exhibitions in galleries, museums and art fairs in Holland and abroad, including Athens, Xania, Zakros, Heraklion. Five different ambassadors inaugurated some of his exhibitions.
