Event Description

Modern Greek Language & Culture Course (MG102)
Island of Paros, 5 - 18 July 2015

NEOHEL would like to inform you on this year’s 40-hour intensive course for levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2, as defined by CEFR and according to the requirements of ΚΕΓ (Centre for the Greek Language) for the acquisition of the Greek Language Certification (Ellinomatheia). The seminar extends through a 2-week period and combines language and culture.
• Greek dance lessons
• Guided tour

Some of the suggested activities include visits to:
• attractive villages in the traditional Cycladic style;
• numerous picturesque churches, monasteries, and windmills;
• the most imposing church of Ekatontapyliani ("Our Lady of a Hundred Doors"). Ekatontapyliani, approximately 1600 years old, is one of the most important samples of Byzantine architecture in Greece;
• the Archaeological Museum of Parikia; amongst the many other interesting exhibits is a fragment of the 3rd century Parian Chronicle, a stele carved with events from 1582 BC to 299 BC;
• the Venetian "Kastro" (13th century AD) in the old quarter of Parikia;
• the Aegean Folklore Museum in the village of Lefkes; through its exhibits we will discover the Aegean Sea culture, including architecture, traditional trades and geology of the islands;
• the Byzantine Road; the trail, constructed about 1000 years ago and paved with marble, is the best known and best preserved section of the island’s old stone paved streets. It takes about an hour to walk and links Lefkes with the beautiful village of Prodromos and its impressive maze-like alleys;
• the ancient marble quarry in Marathi;
• the festival of local produces, organized every July in Parikia; we will taste local cuisine and take part in the festivities, including music concerts and dancing;
• the small island of Antiparos, just a few nautical miles southwest of Paros; Chora, the main town of Antiparos, was built around a 15th century AD Venetian castle; the stone paved streets, the whitewashed alleys, the houses decorated with thriving pink and purple bougainvilleas, and the central square in the shade of eucalyptus trees create an enchanting atmosphere
