Sistah Jammaroots rocks the mic, John-Philipp selects the sounds
Maria Perdiki a.k.a. Jammaroots was born in Athens. She is a musician & songwriter, drummer & singer but also a multi-instrumentalist. Raised in a family of musicians, music has always been embedded in her genes.
In the course of her career and through diverse collaborations, she was influenced by various different music genres, finally dedicating herself mostly to reggae.
Drawing mainly from the traditional Jamaican musical heritage, Jammaroots with her very particular voice, mixes her musical influences creating a peculiar musical blend, based on reggae with a scent of soul, dub and lots of improvisations.
In 2001 she began her professional career as a drummer. In 2005 she entered the reggae scene as a backing vocalist with the group 'The Uprising'' Bob Marley tribute band.
In 2008 her collaboration with the musician, composer and orchestrator Stathis Kambilis (The Oscillator) led to the recordings of her first “takes” of her own compositions in reggae, soul and dub sounds.
In 2010 she created her first band named “Sistah Jammaroots & The Oscillators” and made her debut in the live scene.
Her current band is called “Jammaroots (full band)” in which she is a songwriter, singer and performer. The band has a unique music style combining reggae with soul, dub and lots of improvisations.
